Extensive Office Space Construction Plans Near Canary Wharf

A joint venture between Wood Wharf, Ballymore Properties, British Waterways, and the Canary Wharf Group has submitted an application with Tower Hamlets Council for a major project in the vicinity of Canary Wharf.

The buildings W01 and W02-03 will provide one of the biggest benefits under a Section 106 scheme. The plans would give a boost of £50m in terms of planning investment, and £100m for the Crossrail link.

The architects for the project are Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates for W01, which will have 911,000 sq ft of office space and Pelli Clarke Pelli, architects for the famous One Canada Square in Canary Wharf, for W02-03, which will be offering 1.6m sq ft of floor space. The first building will be about 135m in height, whereas W02-03 would reach up to 195m.

The project is estimated to take 10-15 years to complete and will provide six commercial and six residential blocks. The overall office space provided will be almost 5 million sq ft. offering plenty of desk space and the number of homes that the residential block will offer could be as much as 1700. It has also been announced that at least 35% of the homes would fall under the ‘affordable’ bracket.

The project also plans to incorporate other amenities including fitness centers and clinics, along with a riverside park and hotel. There would also be bicycle paths and waterfront boardwalks. The plans even include neighborhood facilities like open air shopping areas and a high street for local traders.
